All participants must provide evidence of a solid undergraduate academic record, typically the equivalent of a 3.0 (B) average in the United States.
Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency in the English language through the DuoLingo English Test, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within two years of the application deadline. Minimum scores for admission:

DuoLingo English Test score of 130. Results should be sent via DuoLingo by filtering institution type to “Other”, then sending the score to University of Pennsylvania - Exchange at Penn (Penn Abroad).

IELTS score of 7.0 overall band score, sent to Penn Abroad via the IELTS website.

TOEFL-IBT (Internet-Based Test) score of 100 or TOEFL-PBT (Paper-Based Test) score of 600. Penn Abroad's TOEFL Destination (DI) Code is 3221.
Students must be nominated to Penn Abroad by their home institution. Once nominated, Penn Abroad will send prospective exchange students a link to access the online application portal and application instructions.

Students will be informed of admissions decisions approximately one month after the deadline. More information can be found on our Accepted Students page.
Tuition and academic fees are waived for exchange students. Exchange students are responsible for all other expenses incurred during their time at the University of Pennsylvania.

To obtain a student visa, students must produce financial documentation showing that they have at least $30,408 (for two semesters) or $15,204 (for one semester) in assets. These numbers are accurate for 2023-2024 but will change for 2024-2025. Penn’s International Student and Scholar Services office’s website for more information. |

All exchange students are required to live in on-campus housing and enroll in a dining plan. |
