Program Abroad:
-
Semester Abroad (SA): Chinese University of Hong Kong
Ask me about...
-
Balancing traveling while abroad - I managed to visit eight other countries while still focusing on my studies
-
Jumping into a program where I knew no one and felt a little clueless, but managed to survive and make great friends
-
Traveling to Asia for the first time - many of the friends I made had family in China or had traveled to Asia before - I had no connections but still felt completely comfortable and supported
My Experience Abroad:
While studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, I was able to fulfill some requirements for my cognitive science major. I had the awesome opportunity to take linguistics classes that looked at language from a Cantonese/Hong Kong perspective, rather than an English/American perspective - it was so interesting to connect Chinese linguistics to what I've learned at Penn. I also had the chance to finally put to use my Mandarin - a language I have been studying at Penn for two years!
Other Highlights:
-
Traveling to eight other countries
-
Practicing my Mandarin in real-life scenarios
-
Making life-long friends
-
Exploring and completely embracing a new, familiar culture
