Ask me about...

  • Traveling abroad alone for the first time to a place where I have no background in the native language (India)

  • Over-researching and planning for weekend travel and balancing that with coursework

My Experience Abroad:

I took classes to finish up the certificate I was pursuing (public policy), and it was fascinating to hear a discussion of trade and global politics from a non-American perspective. The EU has its own complex set of institutions and goals, so it really helped add another dimension to the conversations I've been used to in other classes at Penn on similar subjects. Additionally, I wanted to learn more about an area of study that I have never had the chance to pursue here on campus - the business of the cultural sector. We were lectured by an art gallery owner and a museum strategist to learn more of what was going on on the ground and how all the elements of the art world worked in tandem as tastemakers.

Other Highlights:

  • Meeting up with friends from college and high school across Europe - it made it seem less far from home to see a familiar face in a new place

  • Developing a greater appreciation for art as I visited the palaces and museums across the continent, learning more about regional art heritage and the landscapes and histories that inspired them

  • Making great friendships in the international students' dorm to travel with and to help handle the day-to-day challenges of classes and life in a foreign country
