My Experience Abroad:
Teaching in the monastery was a great way to spend my summer! As a biochemistry major, my enthusiasm for teaching not only English but also science was all that I needed to make a difference in a place where there was a lack of conversational English language and science teaching. I have so many unforgettable memories of being a teacher, from getting a pile of cards from my students to reading classic children's books to them and watching them perform their favorite scenes from the stories. It was an amazing feeling to know that my students enjoyed my classes and were able to learn something new each and every day.
Other Highlights:
-
While in Nepal, I found a community of friends from all over the world
-
I enjoyed the unique experience of living in a monastery
-
Teaching English and science to the monks at the monastery was challenging, but ultimately very rewarding
-
I loved exploring all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the country
