GRIP: Intern in Hong Kong

Program Abroad:

  • Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP): Science Workshop, Hong Kong

Ask me about...

  • Traveling to multiple different countries on a budget

  • How to find local food

  • Living in a city that's not home for the first time

My Experience Abroad:

Since both my majors are in STEM and I've had many opportunities to tutor, in the past I wanted to experience teaching in a completely different city and environment. Although the students that I taught at Science Workshop were younger than I usually work with, I was able to gain a lot of new experience and skills by doing so. Furthermore, Science Workshop gave me the opportunity to work with many different age groups and class sizes. For some of my classes, I worked with only a couple of students; sometimes there would only be one or two for a class. Other times, I would be with a full 20 plus number of students. Although the information may have been more basic, I was able to learn a lot of different ways to visualize and process information, since I needed that a lot for my internship in order to teach different age groups the same information. Now, I am more open to the possibility of working with academics in STEM, whether it be research or teaching.

Other Highlights:

  • The amazing cheap food that was available

  • Immersing myself in Hong Kong culture, which I had never had the opportunity to do so

  • Making a lot of new friends that I would have never had the opportunity to do so if it weren't for this

  • Improving my Cantonese!
