Ask me about...

  • Being abroad for the first time

  • Combating language barriers when you don't understand the language at all

My Experience Abroad:

Both of my study abroad experiences at Penn involved learning about the healthcare systems in various countries. In China and in Thailand, I was able to visit healthcare facilities in urban and rural settings. My time in China was mostly spent learning about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and how integrated it was in their healthcare system, and I was able to compare this to complementary alternative medicines (CAM) that I learned about in simulation labs. Similarly, I also learned about Thai Traditional Medicine (TTM) and compare it to traditional indigenous practices in the US. These programs were a great opportunity to see the bigger picture of nursing and how large the field of healthcare is in the world. It inspired me to find ways to implement some of the practices in my daily life and see how nursing practices used in other countries could be integrated into the US healthcare system.

Other Highlights:

  • Going to Disneyland for the first time

  • Doing cupping and gua sha on my friend

  • Learning how to order from a menu in a foreign language

  • Visiting night markets
