My Experience Abroad:

During my exchange at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), I was able to fulfill requirements in my biology and political science majors. My favorite course analyzed the rise of nations in Southeast Asia and East Asia. I was particularly fond of our lecture on the formation of ASEAN. It was awesome to learn about all these different countries and then travel to them on breaks and weekends. I received many great travel suggestions from the professor and other students! I was also able to take a course on invertebrate form and function that was not available to me at Penn. This allowed me to examine numerous well-preserved specimens from a variety of animal taxa. It was cool to see these species later when I went hiking or scuba diving during my trips. Overall, my experience at CUHK greatly expanded upon my knowledge from Penn.

Other Highlights:

  • Trekking to see Komodo dragons in Indonesia

  • Caring for elephants in Thailand

  • Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat in Cambodia

  • Visiting Victoria Peak in Hong Kong

  • Making life-long friends from Hong Kong and other parts of the world
