My Experience Abroad:
This study abroad experience at the London School of Economics aligned seamlessly with my studies at the University of Pennsylvania. I study Science, Technology, and Society at Penn. My sub-major is Global Science and Technology. LSE allowed me to engage with my academic and career interests. I joined several societies including the social tennis society and the Medical Law and Bioethics society. I intend to study law after graduation, so such societies apply nicely. The coursework was intriguing and unique to the LSE. I studied PH227: Genes, Brains, and Society, AN200: The Anthropology of Kinship, Sex, and Gender, GY14: Society, Culture, and Place, LN252: Contemporary Literature and Global Society, and GY207: Economy, Society, and Place.
Other Highlights:
-
The tennis match at the University of London Royal Holloway was a major highlight of my year abroad and my experience as a university student. My team and I took a bus, the tube, and a train, and did a 45-minute walk through the country fields that surround Royal Holloway to arrive at the tennis courts. This was a real dose of country living compared to our usual city living lol! We played a really friendly team and they invited us to a barbecue after the match. I started the day not knowing the 3 other students I was competing with from LSE and ended the day with 3 good friends. They also gave me advice on the train home regarding their graduate degrees.
-
Another highlight is the talk I watched at LSE given by the Lithuanian Prime Minister, Ingrida Simonyte during the annual LSE German Society conference. Simonyte discussed the current challenges faced by European democracies. Visiting the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace with my new study abroad friends also was a highlight.
-
My Pret- A- Manger coffee subscription was a real highlight, as many LSE students were constantly rushing to and fro the Prets around campus.
-
The LSE library was a really gorgeous social center of campus, along with The Three Tuns student pub.
