My Experience Abroad:
As a Hispanic Studies major, my semester abroad in Argentina was an incredible opportunity for me to improve my Spanish. Taking classes at Argentine universities was one of the best experiences of my Penn career - I was fully immersed in the language and culture and made many Argentine friends as well. With these friends, I was able to practice my language skills in a comfortable and fun environment, and by the end of the semester, my Spanish had improved dramatically.
Other Highlights:
-
Seeing the waterfalls in Iguazú. This location in Northeast Argentina has hundreds of waterfalls that form a 360-degree panorama of cascading water. It was an astounding sight.
-
Hiking in the Andes mountains. The views were breathtaking, and it was a unique experience to transition from summer weather at the base to snow at the peak.
-
Seeing wild whales in Puerto Madryn. This was my first time seeing whales in the wild, and it was such a great experience. During this trip, we also saw penguins, guanacos (similar to llamas), and sea lions.
-
Exploring Argentina with my new friends. I made some of the best friends of my college career during my semester abroad, and it was great to explore a new country with them.
-
Hanging out with my Argentine friends. By taking classes at a university in Buenos Aires, I made a lot of friends that had grown up in the city. It was so much fun to get to know them and their culture, as well as to practice my Spanish in a native environment. I miss them a lot.
