SA: Columbia in Paris at Reid Hall

Program Abroad:

  • Semester Abroad (SA): Columbia in Paris at Reid Hall, France

Ask me about...

  • Taking courses entirely in a foreign language

  • Interacting with local university students

  • Combining cultural resources abroad with classroom learning

  • Writing research papers in French

My Experience Abroad:

While in Paris, I had the chance to take a Sciences Po seminar focusing on migration, racism, and intersectionality. The course included different speakers each week from NGOs dealing with issues of race, gender, and socioeconomic status, as well as an in-depth research paper on a topic of my choice. This complemented the type of political science work I have completed at Penn, but approached topics through a different lens and focused primarily on another part of the world. I also took an Art History class that took place in museums around Paris, as well as an Urban History class that explored the history and culture behind a different neighborhood of Paris each week.

Other Highlights:

  • Art History courses held at the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay

  • Traveling to other areas of France as well as different countries all over Europe

  • Living independently and getting to know my own neighborhood in Paris

  • Significantly improving my French through my classes as well as everyday interactions in the city

  • Learning more about French cuisine
