GRIP: Intern in Singapore

Program Abroad:

  • Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP): GREE Ventures Intern in Singapore

Ask me about...

  • Being abroad for the first time

  • Participating in an internship right after freshman year

  • Recruiting while abroad

  • Traveling while abroad

My Experience Abroad:

I interned at GREE Ventures, a venture capital firm in Singapore, for 3 months through Penn GRIP this past summer. Since I am majoring in economics with concentrations in finance and statistics and also minoring in computer science, being at the intersection of business and technology allowed me to learn so much about both fields this summer. I was able to delve deep into the startup ecosystem of Southeast Asia while also conducting due diligence on broader industry trends, such as the healthcare and co-living spaces. My entire internship experience has furthered my interest in financial services, and I definitely see myself working in venture capital at some point of my career.

Other Highlights:

  • Working in WeWork, a beautiful, lively coworking space in the center of Singapore downtown.

  • Working in a 5 person team with interns who were 4 years older than me, allowing me to tackle a steep learning curve and really immerse myself in Singaporean culture by spending time with the interns, who were local.

  • Traveling to Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong during weekends/days off.

  • Being given the opportunity to attend large tech conferences, where hundreds of startups would be presenting to venture capitalists and attendees.
