Ask me about...

  • Abroad experiences that are unrelated to your path of study/future goals

  • Being abroad alone for the first time

  • Working in a new environment in a different office culture

  • Learning to live on your own in a new country

  • Planning trips to other locations during your time abroad (ex. New Zealand while in Australia)

My Experience Abroad:

Both of my abroad experiences were purposely disconnected from my coursework and my major at Penn; I am a Gender, Sexuality, & Women's Studies major on a pre-medical track, but my PGS experience was a Religious Studies course that traveled to Spain and my GRIP experience was a social media marketing intern at a hemp and medical marijuana company. I did this specifically because I wanted to gain an abroad experience that would offer me an entirely novel point of view and wholly unique experiences. I wanted to embark on travels that would broaden the scope of my knowledge base and expose me to fields of study and vocations that I was previously unfamiliar with. Both of these experiences did exactly that.

Other Highlights:

  • Learning how to surf (GRIP in Sydney)

  • Marveling at the Great Mosque of Cordoba (PGS in Spain)

  • Listening to music and people-watching on the steps of the Sydney Opera House

  • Watching a flamenco performance with my entire class (PGS in Spain)

  • Snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef (GRIP in Sydney)
