My unique program. My program was unique in that I was not studying at a university, but rather with a small group of students who were all taking the exact same classes as I was. We traveled around the country a lot as part of the program as well, which was my favorite aspect of it, and something that I don't think I would've gotten with most other programs.
My Experience Abroad:
As an environmental science student, Costa Rica is one of the best places to learn about both ecology and sustainability. Not only is the country a home for 4% of the world's biodiversity, but the government and the people have also made incredible strides to protect it through efforts such as their commitment to having 99% of their electricity come from renewable sources. In addition to my major, this program enhanced my study of Spanish by giving me an immersive experience through a one-month homestay in the middle of the semester!
Other Highlights:

Watching a leatherback sea turtle cover over her nest and go back to the ocean was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in my entire life.

Going snorkeling for three days in Panama and seeing everything from stingrays to puffer fish to upside-down jellyfish.

Seeing a tapir walk right by the spot we were eating dinner.

Presenting my research on hummingbird feeding behavior to the rest of my program, and hearing about all of their independent research projects.
