Emma Shockley

One of Emma's many cultural immersion days where she went to a nearby Country Club and had asado while learning to play polo.

GRIP: Social Impact in Buenos Aires
Program
Global Research & Internship Program (GRIP)

Program:

  • GRIP: Social Impact in Buenos Aires

Ask me about...

  • Living with a homestay

  • Interacting and building relationships with others in a new language

  • Having done two different experiences with Penn Abroad

My Experience Abroad:

By completing projects ranging from web development to language optimization in a variety of professional fields, my role as a Marketing and Business Development Intern in Buenos Aires exposed me to new concepts, areas of work, and perspectives I genuinely believe I would have lacked without it. The program solidified my interest not only in Marketing, but I learned which subfields are of the most interest to me and which come most innately.

By completing all of this in another country and language, I found myself fully immersed in a new culture both inside and outside the office which derived its value from my experiencing firsthand what it is like to live and work outside of US culture. At work, I built strong relationships with my coworkers who provided valuable insight both professionally and personally. My completion of this program allowed me to grow as a person, student, and future professional, and it further solidified my interest in continuing my academic and professional development internationally which has resulted in my current plan of doing this upcoming Spring 2024 semester abroad in Sydney, Australia!

Other Highlights:

  • Building valuable relationships while abroad

  • Culturally immersive experiences: enjoying asado, trip to El Calafate, and more!

  • The improvement of my Spanish-speaking abilities

  • Being in academic and professional spaces to help me grow as a person
