CIEE Monteverde: Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Ecology/Evolution, BEES '24

Linda Wu is a junior studying Ecology and Evolution as well as BEES. In the upcoming spring semester, she will be going to Monteverde, Costa Rica to study tropical ecology. In her first few years at Penn, she has learned about the incredible research that has been conducted in the cloud forests of the country, and is excited to learn more in the field. Currently, she is involved in the Wharton Agribusiness Club, TESG Fellows, Delta Sigma Pi, Katie Barrot’s lab, and Research Peer Advising. In her free time, she loves hiking, traveling, reading, cooking, and film. Linda is excited to learn more about field conservation biology, explore the hiking trails of Monteverde, and explore the local culture.

During her upcoming semester, she is particularly looking forward to…

  • Learning about the biodiversity of the region (over 2500 species of plates, 400 birds, and over 100 different mammals!)

  • Surfing in Tamarindo

  • Immersing myself in the local culture and town

  • Meeting and living with other students around the world interested in tropical ecology on the field site

  • Designing, conducting, and analyzing data from my own experiment

  • Improving my Spanish speaking abilities!
