My Experience Abroad:
As a minor in Hispanic Studies who is learning Spanish as a non-native language, I knew that I wanted each of my abroad experiences to be well-aligned with my goal of improving my Spanish skills. With my Penn Global Seminar to Costa Rica, I was able to learn Spanish in the classroom, which also ended in a culminating trip to a Spanish speaking country, where I was immersed in the Spanish language for 10 days. Immediately after, I embarked on my journey abroad to Spain, where for the next 4 months I had the privilege of taking classes in Spanish and speaking Spanish as part of my daily life. Without these programs, the Spanish language would not feel as natural, and I would have only learned in an academic setting.
Other Highlights:
-
Overnight bussing and cheap flying my way through Europe
-
Eating through the Tapas scene in Barcelona and making Paella from scratch
-
Hiking the Pyrenees, Tatras, Alps, and Dinarides
-
Road tripping in Germany (and driving a German car on an Autobahn)
-
Getting destroyed by freezing, blustery, torrential rain while walking the Cliffs of Moher
