This year’s International Women’s Day is being held at an unprecedented moment of public reckoning about the pervasiveness of sexual harassment and violence against women and girls and the need for greater prevention and accountability. Around the world, the #MeToo movement has galvanized women and girls and their allies to share their resistance, embrace and support survivors, demand justice, and seek healing. Civil society, academics, and activists are challenging the permissive culture of sexual harassment and sexual violence against women and girls and demanding legislative, policy, and cultural reform.

Join Perry World House, The Alice Paul Center for Research on Gender, Sexuality & Women, Latin American and Latino Studies, and the Ortner Center on Violence & Abuse in Relationships, as we honor International Women’s Day with an exceptional panel discussion between activists on the front lines of ending sexual violence and harassment against women and girls.

Panelists will include:

• Veronica Avila, Campaign Manager, Restaurants Opportunity Center (ROC) United
• Verónica Gago, Professor, Instituto de Altos Estudios at the National University of San Martín in Argentina and member Ni Una Menos
• Joanne N. Smith, Founder, and CEO of Girls for Gender Equity
• Nadeen Spence, University of the West Indies, Women and Girls Rights Activist

Deborah A. Thomas, R. Jean Brownlee Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, will moderate the discussion; LaShawn R. Jefferson, Deputy Director of Perry World House, will make introductory remarks.
