A year ago, the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine. Moscow tried to quickly seize control of Kyiv and install a puppet government, but the people and military of Ukraine successfully halted Russia’s advances and turned them back. Since the initial phase of the war, both sides have secured victories throughout the country’s east, with the United States and NATO countries sending financial and military support to help Kyiv achieve additional success on the battlefield. As both militaries entrench their positions, prospects for peace look dim, in what has become a symbolic war between democracy and authoritarianism. The United States and its NATO allies stand with Ukraine, supplying weapons, trainings, and other assistance.

How has support by the United States and Western Europe evolved over the course of the conflict? What are the prospects for peace? What is Russia’s future as an aggressor state one year after its invasion? Join Perry World House for an insightful discussion about the past year of war and what the future holds for both Russia and Ukraine as the war progresses into its second year.
