Perry World House presents its Inaugural Conference:

Global Shifts: Urbanization, Migration, and Demography-- An Examination of Marginalization & Inequality

From the unprecedented scale of migration to questions surrounding the sustainability of urbanization and the consequences of demographic change, this conference examines three interconnected phenomena that individually and collectively shift the world’s population and transform the way we live. Perry World House has identified marginalization and inequality as particularly salient and cross-cutting characteristics of today's global shifts, and this conference helps us identify ways to disrupt these currents and address important questions about human rights across the world. Join us for a day of thought-provoking remarks and conversations on some of today's most pressing global questions with distinguished speakers including Ambassador Samantha Power (HON'15), Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Anne C. Richard, Jockin Arputham, and more. The day will conclude with a reception.

Please join us for a Keynote Address from Samantha Power, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2013-2017) and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Ambassador Power will be introduced by University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann.

PennIUR Earth Day Lecture (optional): From 1:15-2:15PM, you are invited to join PennIUR for its annual lecture, "MUSA Earth Day 2017: Urbanization, Migration, and Climate Change: What Can We Learn from a Spatial Perspective?" This lecture by Deborah Balk, Associate Director of the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research, will take place over lunch in the Global Policy Lab.
