Postdoctoral Fellow Ariadna Reyes Sanchez

Originally from Mexico City, Ariadna Reyes Sanchez has a PhD in community and regional planning from the University of Texas at Austin. As a doctoral student, she was the recipient of the Fulbright and CONACYT fellowships. In her dissertation, Reyes Sanchez examined the extent to which residents of Isidro Fabela, a consolidated informal settlement in Mexico City, use energy for the construction and use of housing units. By doing so, her doctoral research revealed the sustainable solutions that the urban poor conduct to use less energy. Her research interests include energy justice, just sustainability, transportation, and housing policy in Latin America. Reyes Sanchez collaborated in the 2015 Dominican Republic Studio developing a community-based solid waste program for the informal community of Los Platanitos, in Santo Domingo. From 2009 to 2013, she served as a specialist in sustainable building at the Centro Mario Molina, where she led a study to evaluate the environmental sustainability of the Mexican social housing policy. She holds an MSc in civil and environmental engineering from the National Polytechnic of Mexico, where she graduated with honors.
