Cristiane Lucena Carneiro has experience in the areas of compliance and regime design, with a focus on the WTO, migration, and human rights. During her time at Perry World House, she worked on a book project that explores the impact of institutional complexity on state compliance in the Inter-American Human Rights System. Another research project analyzes assertiveness by emerging democracies in the WTO, as a byproduct of domestic political pressure. She is also interested in institutional design, with an emphasis on the role of flexibility in treaty commitments. Lucena Carneiro is assistant professor at the International Relations Institute, University of Sao Paulo, where she teaches courses in international relations, international law, and human rights. Lucena Carneiro has published on compliance, economic sanctions, institutional complexity, and international regime design. She holds a PhD in politics from New York University and a BA in law from the Federal University of Pernambuco.
