Welcome to Penn! International Student Orientation (ISO) for new first-year Penn international undergraduates and graduate and professional students will take place during the week of August 23, 2021. View the schedule of events below. Registration details have been communicated via email.
Please note: All new students must complete a mandatory virtual immigration check-in using our iPenn system. Please see our "New Student Check-In and Orientation" page for more information.

All registration details have been sent to first-year undergraduates and first-year graduate/professional students via email. Please contact ISSS if you believe you are eligible to attend the first-year orientation events listed below but did not receive an email containing registration details.
Events for First-Year Undergraduates
- New International Undergraduate Welcome Picnic
- Monday, August 23 | 6:00–7:30 EDT
- Shoemaker Green
- Join us for an outdoor picnic on Penn's Shoemaker Green, where you'll have an opportunity to meet faculty and staff from various Penn schools and centers who will provide you with a warm welcome to the University of Pennsylvania. You'll also get the chance to meet your fellow new international students from around the world and enjoy the fresh air on Penn's beautiful West Philadelphia campus.
- Welcome Session for New International Undergraduates Mandatory
- Wednesday, August 25 | 10:00–11:45AM
- Meyerson Hall B1
- Come meet the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) team and get to know other new international students through a variety of games and icebreaker activities, as well as a Cultural Awareness Session and Penn Trivia hosted by the International Peers Helping Incoming New Students (iPHINS). The event will be held indoors; masks are required for all attendees regardless of vaccination status.

- Meet the iPHINS (International Peers Helping Incoming New Students), navigate the NSO calendar, and learn how to get started at Penn!
Events for First-Year Grad & Professional Students
- New International Graduate Student Meetups
- Tuesday, August 24 | 10:00AM–11:30AM
- Meet in front of the ISSS Office (3701 Chestnut St. 1W)
- Thursday, August 26 | 4:00PM–5:30PM
- Meet in front of the ISSS Office (3701 Chestnut St. 1W)
- Meet other new Penn graduate international students from around the world! These outdoor Meetups will place you in a small group of other new international students to discuss Wellness (Tuesday) and Academics (Thursday). This is a great opportunity to meet some new friends and experience the amazing diversity that Penn celebrates. Join us at the meetup check-in location (in front of the ISSS office at 3701 Chestnut St.) where you’ll receive your instructions and placement in a small group, and then explore a list of outdoor campus locations to find a spot where your group can meet.
- Welcome Grab and Go for New International Graduate Students
- Friday, August 27 | 5:00–6:30PM
- Outside the ISSS office (3701 Chestnut St. 1W)
- During this outdoor grab and go event, you will have the chance to mingle with other new international graduate students, pick up some Penn "swag," and enjoy free food. To make sure all students can participate in this event safely, we ask that you choose one 15-minute time slot, during which you will be free to enjoy your meal and mingle with other students. Space is limited.
