Originally from Beijing, China, Yao Qi served as the Graduate Chair of the International Student Advisory Board (ISAB), working directly with ISSS to provide feedback and to represent the international graduate student voice. Yao graduated as a Doctor of Dental Medicine from Penn Dental.
As Graduate Chair of ISAB, Yao served as a bridge between the international graduate student community and key Penn administrative offices. But her global impact has not been limited to the confines of Penn’s campus – Yao is committed to using her skills as a dental care professional to improve the health of the communities to which she belongs. On a weekly basis, she provides dental care to immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries, youth in West Philadelphia elementary schools, refugees from Afghanistan and African countries, and members of the Chinatown community. Before coming to Penn, she established a medical training program for graduate students at a hospital in Uganda.
