Announcing the Winners of the 2020-21 #WorldAtPenn Contest
We are excited to announce the winners and honorable mentions of the 2020-21 #WorldAtPenn Contest, which were selected by a panel of judges on the basis of three criteria: 1) originality/creativity, 2) communication of culture, place, or identity, and 3) quality.
How do you bring the world to Penn?
Each member of our global community brings the world to Penn in a unique way, enriching campus life with a variety of identities, experiences, and perspectives. The goal of our annual #WorldAtPenn Contest is to amplify global student voices and to showcase the many ways in which Penn students experience the world and life at Penn.
The 2020-21 #WorldAtPenn contest will feature photo, video, and text submissions from students across the University. After the submission portal closes at noon (12PM EST) on January 20, 2021, winners and honorable mentions will be selected, and members of the Penn community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite entries. Winners will be highlighted and profiled on ISSS social media and in University-wide publications, and all submissions will be spotlighted as part of the Penn Global Opportunities Fair during Penn Global Week (February 1-5, 2021).
Please review the contest guidelines below before submitting an entry. Need some inspiration? Check out last year's entries. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Your submission for the 2020-21 #WorldAtPenn Contest should fit under one of these three categories:
- "Home": What is home? Where is home? What does “home” mean to you? How has your idea of home evolved since you began your Penn journey (whether you're on campus or abroad)?
- "My Penn Journey": Tell us about your Penn journey. This could be a journey in a literal sense (i.e., traveling to Penn and the United States), in a figurative sense (for example, an academic, emotional, social, or spiritual journey) or both.
- "This Is Who I Am": All students help make Penn a vibrant community of individuals, but what makes you you, specifically? What aspects of your global identity would you like to share with others?
Submissions will be accepted in three formats:
- 📷 Photo: Submit a digital photo and short written statement (2-3 sentences) that you feel best reflects one of the submission categories.
- 🎥 Short Videos: Submit a short video (60 seconds or less) that you feel best reflects one of the submission categories.
- ✍🏼 Tiny Stories: Tell us your story in 100 words or fewer. See this page for inspiration.
Please submit no more than one entry per submission format! For example you can submit one photo, one video, and one Tiny Story, but not three photos.
Who can participate?
All current Penn students – international and domestic – are eligible to participate.
How will my submission be judged?
Your submission will be judged based on three criteria:
- Originality/creativity
- Communication of culture, place, or identity
- Quality (photographic composition, storytelling ability, etc.)
Members of the Penn community will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite entries.
